    What Is Plastic?

Plastic Is A Word Derived From The Greek “Plastikós”, Which Means Capable Of Being Molded.

Plastics Are Substances Of Organic Origin Which Are Composed Of Long Macromolecular Chains That Contains Carbon And Hydrogen In Their Structure And That Are Constituted By One Or More Organic Compounds Of High Molecular Weight. They Are Obtained By Chemical Reactions Between Different Synthetic Raw Materials (polyethylene Or Nylon) Or Natural Ones (cellulose, Wax And Rubber).

They Can Be Molded By Different Transformation Processes In Which Heat And Pressure Is Applied.
  • Transformation Processes

    Transformation Processes

Primary Processes: The Plastic Is Molded Through A Thermal Process Where The Material Passes Through The Liquid State And Eventually Solidifies. There Are Different Methods Or Processes Such As:

    Extrusion - Injection - Blown - Immersion - Rotational Molding - Compression

Secondary Processes: These Processes Use Mechanical Or Pneumatic Means To Form The Final Product Without Going Through The Plastic Melting.

    Thermoforming - Bending - Cutting - Turning – Drilling
  • Injection Molding

    Injection Molding

It Is A Semi Continuous Process Which Involves Injecting A Plastic Resin Melt (or Rubberized) In A Closed-Pressure Cold Mold Through A Small Hole Called Gate.

In That Mold The Material Solidifies, Beginning To Crystallize In Semi Crystalline Polymers. After Filling The Mold, It Takes A Period Of Time To Cool The Work Piece. When The Mold Cavity Is Opened The Casting Piece Is Ready.
